Underwriter:
An
investment firm that purchases a security directly from its issuer
for resale to other investment firms or the public or sells for
such issuer to the public.

Unit:
In
mutual funds, a unit represents a portion, or share, of the total
value of the fund. Investors purchase a number of units and the
unit value fluctuates with the net asset value of the fund.

|
Unrealized
Gain:
The
profit you would earn if you sold an asset, which has increased
in value. Since you have not actually received any cash profit,
it's an unrealized (or "paper") gain on which no taxes are due.
However, if you were to sell the asset for more than what you paid
for it, you would have to pay taxes on your profit.

Unsecured Loan:
A
loan for which there is no collateral. Because the financial institution
cannon seize property in the event of non-payment, unsecured loans
are more expensive than secured loans.
